September 29, 2018 marked the 6th annual gala night for St. Joseph's Medical Clinic. This years theme was the Wild Wild West. Over 225 guests donned their cowboy boots and hats and joined us for a night filled with games, prizes, food and fun.
The night began with guests arriving to the Marriott West and being taken back in time to the Old Wild West. Once walking through the arch way of hanging saddles, guests were greeted with a large Gold Mine and Covered Wagon. Here they could take part in the "Gold Rush Raffle" and "Gold Mine Grab Bag" events. The Gold Rush raffle gave guests a chance to win a beautiful, handmade, 14k gold necklace and earrings set. The Gold Mine Grab Bags were a wonderful addition this year, graciously organized by Faye Wetzel from Faye's Boutique. Guests were able to choose from various wrapped gift boxes ranging in prices from $10 to $1000. The thrill was opening the box to see the beautiful jewelry piece waiting inside.
As guests continued down the dusty road, they encountered our own Wild West Jail with Sheriff and Deputies hard at work. Onlookers could witness a few "criminals" serving their time or searching for a bail-out from a passerby. Guests could purchase a warrant from the Deputy and have another guest arrested for charity. Our town Sheriff takes his job seriously and rounded-up anyone that had a warrant assigned to them. Our WANTED were given the option to sit out their time of 15 minutes or pay a bail to be released early.
Continuing down the road, our western friends encountered our "drinking hole" and were able to stop for a cold drink before moving along to our Arms Length Raffle Row. Prizes of all types lined the way. Ranging from lottery tickets to custard for a year to wine packages or a fence full of various gift cards, guests could try their luck at winning by purchasing an arms length or wingspan of raffle tickets from the local town folk.
After all the thrill of the raffles, our guests moseyed on through our swinging doors where they were able to refill their drink and experience the thrills in our back saloon. They first encountered our volunteer photographer taking photos of all the town folk dressed in their western attire. After being captured on film they turned to see our saloon in full swing with 5 different gambling tables ranging from Poker, Roulette and of course Blackjack. Armed with "Fun Money" guests could join any of the games for a chance to win raffle tickets for some wonderful prizes.
All the fun and games was making our town folk hungry and dinner would soon arrive. As guests made their way back through our little town and entered the main hall they were greeted with even more fun. A large silent auction was taking place. With 120 glorious baskets valued from $100 to $500, even some priceless items, guests could place bids until their hearts were content or their pockets were empty. If the bidding was making them thirsty again, guests could step over to our wine pull and choose a cork to win a bottle of wine but also be entered into the drawing for a bottle valued at $100!
It was now time for the dinner bell to be rung and guests made their way to their seats. Dr. Shelley Watters took the stage with a few early announcements and thank yous and dinner was served. As guests enjoyed their beautifully cooked filet mignon, honey roasted chicken or vegetable en croute, the program continued. Dr. Watters introduced us to Kathleen Becker, St. Joseph's Medical Clinics new executive director. Kathy told us a little about herself and handed out a few awards to some of our most dedicated volunteers this year and thanked all volunteers that have helped make St. Joseph's Medical Clinic what it is today.
Dr. Shelley Watters took the stage again and spoke about the work that St. Joseph's Medical Clinic does in our community and what the support of donors means to our patients. Dr. Watters then led us into the Live Auction part of the evening. Wonderful prizes ranging from Packers tickets to vacations and more were auctioned off to the highest bidder.
After all the auction items were spoken for, it came time for the most important part of the evening, the Fund-A-Cause. Dr. Shelley Watters introduced this portion of the evening by sharing a video with us. This video explained how St. Joseph's Medical Clinic helps the homeless in our community and shared the story of one individual who turned his life around because of the services and assistance he received. The evening concluded with the country band Saddlebook taking the stage. Guests kicked up their boots and strutted their stuff with modern country hits while sharing stories about their winnings and time spent in our little town.
All in all, the evening was a big success raising almost $80,000 for St. Joseph's Medical Clinic! We sincerely thank everyone that came to join us that evening and contributed to making the event successful. From volunteers to staff to donors and sponsors, this event would not happen without you.
